Air Malawi signed content distribution agreement with Travelport

In the announced made by Travelport today, Air Malawi and Travelport have signed a distribution agreement that will enable Air Malawi to provide its full published inventory, including web fares, on an exclusive basis to Galileo and World span connected users around the globe. With the full content from Air Malawi guaranteed for all Galileo and World span users worldwide, this major flight provider for Africa will become accessible for Atoll agents and online reservations.

The national carrier of Malawi is most popular for its flights to Lilongwe and Blantyre. The airline started its operations in 1964 and also secures a strong position among cheap flights to Johannesburg. While other flight routes with Air Malawi include flights to Lusaka, Harare and Dar es Salaam.  The airline holds its base, hub at Blantyre airport, Malawi. Whereas, Travelport is a prominent business services provider to worldwide travel industry.

The global full content agreement between Air Malawi and Travelport will open the doors for full published inventory with Air Malawi, including web fares, on an exclusive basis to Galileo and Worldspan (flight reservation systems). Mr Mark Meehan, managing director, Travelport Africa said on this occasion:

The distribution agreement, that covers full content will be equally beneficial for air Malawi as a large number of travelers each day, prefer to make their flight reservation (specially for cheap flights) through Galileo or Worldspan. These two GPS or flight reservation systems are also the main source behind online reservations on the internet. The commercial director of Air Malawi, Mr. Temwachi Changwa expressed:

We are particularly pleased to be signing this agreement with Travelport, as it gives the travel trade both in Africa and beyond, greater access to our inventory. It very much underscores our ongoing commitment to partnering with the travel industry

The agreement is a great step in improving and encouraging flights to Africa, which forms a major chunk of revenue in this continent
